Squid Game Season 3’s Most Shocking Twists, Ranked From Clever To Cruel

Season three of Netflix series Squid Game contains so many twists and turns which were predictable and some of them were so surprising as well so it has given a story with a lot of ups and downs.

Squid game has been completed after four years when it first came to the big screen, and the narrative of Gi-hun as he works to put a stop to the vicious games is complete now. Just like in the grim atmosphere of the show, majority of the characters were killed in the end.

There are a number of aspects concerning Season 3 which surprised the viewers, especially the plot-twists. After the dramatic turnout of Il Oh-nam in the first season, I did not expect any surprises twist that would be as intense as in the first season in the final season.

To my surprise, a number of turns that my Season 3 had, turned out to be out of thin air.

Check out these Twists of Season 3 that shocked billions of people:

The most predictable twist in season 3 of the Squid Game is premised on the real identity of Dae-ho. As some of the fans guessed that he might have been a Marine deserter or PTSD victim, the strongest part assumed the right solution that he was not a Marine.

The only thing that was a little bit surprising was that he did not make up stories to appear tough. Since the climate in their setting is quite strenuous, it would be reasonable that Dae-ho increases his act in order to intimidate possible offenders. As a matter of fact, though, he lied about his past in order to make friends with Gi-hun and Jung-bae.

At the end of the second season of Squid Game it was heavily implied that even Captain Park was cooperating with the games in order to hide the island meaning that much of what Captain Park has done so far in the third season felt not only telegraphed but also not unexpected since he is already working with the games. There is one big revelation that sends a shock.

Woo-seok finds pink soldier uniform and some money under the dog house of captain Park. This statement is not directly recounted, but it is a clear implication that as someone with the rank of a captain, Captain Park might have once been one of the pink soldiers, which at first glance, is something that is not apparent, but when given time to think about, one will clearly see that this is true.

Also, the Recruiter was one of the masked figures in the games in the past before taking up his current role and this suggests to us that this could be an easy ladder that people in the Squid Game organization will use as they escalate up the ladder in the organization.

The whole idea that life is always unfair and justice is hardly ever practised is created at the earliest moments in Squid Games. This theme is supported in another horrifying end of the third season of Squid Game.

In-ho uses a self-destruct system and then there is a huge explosion unlike letting the authorities find the island that Jun-ho has been desperately trying to find. Woo-seok is sent to prison, Jun-hee is unable to find any evidence of the games and the people behind it all can shift their operation without penalty. Of no wonder they also have a backup system to escape responsibility.

The one thing which was untold is the explosion itself; they should have thought of evacuation and not total destruction.

During the second season of Squid game, it was more deeply revealed to the audience the level of the nature of these games and as it turns out the pink soldiers are victims as much as the contestants they are playing are.

The main point of the story is where No-eul, a pink soldier, recognizes Park Gyeong-seok, a participant in the 37 th Squid Game. She had met him and his sick daughter earlier on before she was recruited to a be in the lethal competition.

The fact that she hesitates when asked to point the gun to him in season 2 implies that the two have something connecting them. This prompted numerous fans to correctly predict that No-eul would come and save Gyeong-seok at the start of regime in season 3 when Gi-hun revolt.

But what comes out as a shock is not only her desire to save him but that she even does so successfully.

There has been speculation since 2023, with David Fincher attached, that a version of Squid Game in the United States was in development. It is still under speculation though no official confirmation has been made. So, the teaser which emerged at the end of the third season of Squid Game more than surprised the audience.

As stated by Variety in the past by Hwang Dong-hyuk himself, he would plan to end the series after season three, and it does not appear that he would add any hints to indicate a possible spinoff.

The element of surprise was also enhanced by the fact that they have cast an A-list actress Cate Blanchett as the Recruiter in Los Angeles considering the fact that they are playing ddakji  which is not well known in the United States. Even when they possibly implied on a spinoff, it would have been more appropriate to mention that which is more familiar to the American audiences.

As much as the first five twists in the Squid Game season 3 were predictable to some extent, there were also moments of an utmost surprise in the show. This can be especially seen in the case of a sudden and unpredictable killing of Hyun-ju by Myung-gi in the game of Knives and Keys hide-and-seek.

Hyun-ju was the character who should have made it to the final game other than Gi-hun. She was not only a favorite of fans but also strong, smart and physically capable of overcoming all the obstacles they encountered.

Eventually, the fact that she is the first major featured cast member to die in the current season is shocking. Also, the decision to make her meet her demise via a backstabbing, as opposed to a proud fight, seems an unfair slap in the face to one of the best designed characters in Squid Game.

In the second season of Squid Game, Geum-ja is so willing to defend the moves of her son Young-sik. No matter how many times he hurts her or does something dangerous, she will always love him and she will go to any extent to ensure that he is safe. This loyalty causes her killing of him to be one of the stranger things in the third season.

Provided that he were killed/ murdered by her, I would have expected that be through an accident or as a sacrifice on his part. Rather she eventually challenges him to protect Jun-hee and her son.

Geum-ja had to struggle with a form of unbearable dilemma and no matter the path she would follow she will find herself at contradiction to her main philosophy. She makes a heartbreaking move by stabbing him with the hair pin blade, which helps Jun-hee to go away with the baby. This decision of hers ultimately broke her emotionally in tragic suicide.

Though it is apparent that Myung-gi is a greedy con artist, in season 2 of Squid Game, there is not a single instance when he demonstrates a desire to kill or hurt Jun-hee and her baby. Actually, he even makes efforts to make her safe in the Knives and Keys game and also helps her in the jump rope game.

In the last challenge, he actually fools other players to think that he will join them but ends up betraying them and supporting Gi-hun and the baby instead. Thus almost all people were surprised by his sudden turning into a cartoonish villain whom would even kill his child just to earn some money.

Just to put it out clearly, Myung-gi was not a good person in the first place. I could only think that he was able to kill Gi-hun, but not his own newborn (who has no one to depend on except his father) because of money. That is a totally different line of evil.

Myung-gi was always an evil person who cared less about the suffering of others unlike Gi-hun who was basically a good guy hated the games both in season 1 and 2 of Squid Game. During the entire seasons, Gi-hun never killed anyone to get vengeance and he always felt guilty when he had to kill a person to satisfy the games.

This contrast comports well what is unsettling about the dramatic transformation of Player 456 in season 3, and how tough it was to watch. On playing the Swords and Keys game, he embraced his anger. He did not just use a knife to kill Dae-Ho and go ahead but took a more dramatic approach by killing him through choking.

The most ridiculous progression that can be seen in season 3 of Squid Game is the idea that a newborn baby wins. This baby represents the hope that the next generations will not go through the lethal competitions. The self sacrifice by Gi-hun can be related to his connection to humanity.

However, this twist of events does not work. It is more like a soap opera episode than the grunge and dystopian twist that has been associated with Squid Game. Considering the conditions under which it was born and the amount of nutrition it only got, the baby was not supposed to last and win the game.

Squid Game has impressed the whole world with an impressive Second Season that perfectly continues the dramatic pattern established in Squid game 2. Although the series is not a true story, the emotive story line of Squid Game is quite compelling, which finds an area to be inspired out of real life issues such as inequality and survival.

The development and hype around Squid Game Season 2 have already made the third installment even more desirable, likely to become even more thrilling and intense in terms of challenges and concerning social setting, making it a current cult phenomenon.
